The mission of the California Wellness Foundation is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education, and disease prevention. The California Wellness Foundation (CWF) is interested in funding the following health issues: Diversity in the Health Professions, Environmental Health, Healthy Aging, Mental Health, Teenage Pregnancy Prevention, Violence Prevention, Women’s Health, and Work and Health.
The mission of All Stars Helping Kids is to promote a safe, healthy and rigorous learning environment for disadvantaged children in low-income communities. The Helping Hands Fund is interested in funding projects that can be categorized under the three criteria: Rigorous Academics, Health and Fitness, and/or Life skills.

- Network for a Healthy California (Network) Request for Application AIP-201:
On January 5, 2009, the Network for a Healthy California released RFA AIP-2010 inviting regional and statewide organizations, currently conducting community food stamp outreach with non-federal funds and would like to receive matching funds from the Network to enhance their current interventions as part of a larger public health effort. Contracts with successful applicants will begin on October 1, 2009 with Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2010. For more information, visit California Department of Public Health.
- National Gardening Association Announces 2009 Healthy Sprouts Awards Program:

The National Gardening Association encourages the growth of health-focused youth garden programs through the Healthy Sprouts Awards sponsored by Gardener's Supply Company. The awards support school and youth garden programs that teach about nutrition and the issue of hunger in the United States.
To be eligible for the 2009 Healthy Sprouts Awards, a school or organization must plan to garden in 2010 with at least fifteen children between the ages of 3 and 18. The selection of winners is based on the demonstrated relationship between the garden program and nutrition and hunger issues in the United States.
In 2009, the program will present awards to twenty schools or organizations. Each recipient program will receive gardening supplies and resources, including gift certificates toward the purchase of gardening materials from Gardener's Supply. The top five programs will each receive a certificate valued at $500; fifteen more programs will each receive a $200 gift certificate.

- Money Available to Improve Outdoor Play Spaces! 
Head Start Body Start (HSBS) will provide grants of up to $5,000 to Head Start centers nationwide to improve their outdoor play space. Grants recipients will also receive targeted training and technical assistance from HSBS including on-site consultation from a physical activity expert and access to on-line training. - UnitedHealth HEROES Service-Learning Grants
UnitedHealthcare and Youth Service America
(National, select states)
The UnitedHealth HEROES service-learning grant program is available for youth-led community education projects in selected U.S. states. These grants of up to $1,000 support teachers, service-learning coordinators, and students in the health professions to implement service-learning projects around childhood obesity and to engage children and youth ages 5 to 25 as volunteers.

Ronald McDonald House is offering grants to national non-profit organizations that directly improve the health and well being of children. Programs should produce measurable results and have a long-term impact with potential for replication.
Applicants are invited to submit a letter of inquiry by September 4, 2009 to be reviewed at the December board meeting.

- 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC)
(After School Grant)
In addressing its primary goal of ensuring that academic enrichment opportunities are available to students who are not meeting state standards in core academic areas, 21st CCLC funding can be used to provide a broad array of services, such as: Youth development activities; drug and violence prevention programs; recreation programs; and character education programs that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students.
